Essential Oils for Calming Seasonal Allergy Symptoms
It has officially arrived, allergy season. I woke up this morning to a light dusting of yellow pollen coating my car, if you live in the Southeast, I’m sure you can relate. My throat is a little sore and I have a slight headache, ugh!
Seasonal allergies are such a pain, and unfortunately there is no avoiding them. They affect millions of people every year, and so many people reach for over the counter medicine that they must take every day for relief! I have just never been a big fan of this approach, although, I realize that for some, it is necessary.
Using essential oils has been my primary go-to. Typically, I will run the diffusers off and on throughout the day. Doing this cleans the air and is one of the most effective ways to positively impact respiratory conditions such as allergies.
I also use a combination of oils topically to help relieve allergy symptoms. This approach is perfect for kids before going to school, or when you know you will be out and about, and not around your diffuser.
Which oils are best for allergies?
- Roman Chamomile
This combination of equal parts (2 drops each) has been shown to be very effective in calming allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and so on.
Another way to use oils for allergy relief, is to take internally. Not everyone is comfortable with this method, so do this at your own discretion. (If you are interested in learning more about the safety of internal use, here is some valuable information that DoTerra has provided: https://www.doterra.com/blog/science-research-news-safe-to-ingest-essential-oils)
Here is the recommended “Allergy Bomb” to take internally:
Simply add 2 drops of each of these to a veggie capsule and let them assist in relieving your allergy symptoms.
As always, remember that essential oils are highly concentrated, and it only takes a drop or 2 for them to work their magic. Always use caution with children and during pregnancy.
